HISTORY
![]() Our school opened in 1969 with 9 teachers and 203 students. It quickly grew to be amongst the largest in Queensland, each year maintaining high enrolments.
The foundation principal was Mr. J.E. R. Pearson. There were 8 teaching staff. (I.Kerr, J.Pringle, G.Stacey, F.Lemmon, D.Parker, R.Grabner, V.Mould, J.Dallas.) R.Barber was the administration officer. The first school captains were Chris Shaw and Cathy Meikle.
Named after an early Governor of Queensland, the school was proud to have the Australian Chieftain of the MacGregor Clan, Mrs Jean McGregor-Lowndes as its first Patroness.
On Black Sunday, 4th November 1973 at 6.30 pm a tornado struck the School, causing hundred of thousands of dollars of damage, much of the School having to be re-built. On such dark occasions Mrs McGregor-Lowndes would quote from Sir Walter Scott’s, “MacGregors’ Gathering”:“While there’s leaves in the forest, and foam on the river,
MacGregor, despite them, shall flourish for ever.” The Scottish influence on the school can be seen in the uniform; the school emblem (the Macgregor Lion); the school crest (S'rioghal-Mo-Dhream - Royal is My Race); and the school magazine (Gregalach)
The school houses, for general organisation and sporting competitions, are called clans (Scottish for family). They are named after people or groups associated with the MacGregor Clan. The Clan Groups are Alpin, Duncan, Gregor and Rob Roy
